Keeping your diabetes under control is no small feat. Researchers surveyed 504 people aged 65 years or older, all of whom had experienced at least one severe hypoglycemia episode in the past. Unfortunately, one-third of the group said that they had not discussed the episodes with their doctor afterward. However, those who did made important changes in conjunction with their doctor in order to prevent future episodes. These included things like adjusting insulin regiments, changing meal plans, carrying glucose, checking blood glucose levels more often, and obtaining a hormone that can counteract hypoglycemia in an emergency (glucagon). Be forthright with your doctor and make sure you keep your blood sugar under control.
